Making the Most of Your Pool: 3 Great Swimming Exercises


Swimming pools are super fun to have in the warm summer months. They can be expensive and time consuming to maintain, so you better get the most out of your pool. Besides throwing a pool party every night all summer long, there are other great ways you can use your pool. Swimming is an incredible way to exercise and it is a convenient way to use your pool. Many men and women don't feel comfortable working out around other people, especially in a swimsuit. However, in the comfort of your own backyard, you can get a great swimming workout in.

Swimming can be a tremendous cardio workout that helps keep your heart and lungs healthy. You can simply swim laps back and forth using different strokes like crawl, freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly.

Swimming can also be great for building strength and flexibility too. It's especially handy to rehabilitate after an injury or for people that can't take a lot of force through their joints because of injury, arthritis, etc. All you need is a few fun pool toys to get started with tons of great exercises. You'll need a ball, a kickboard, and two air dumbbells. We've found that the following three exercises using these simple items are outstanding.


Pull the ball underwater and hold it in front of your stomach. Then, keeping the ball underwater, slowly twist from side to side. This is a great workout for your core muscles and also your arms.


Kickboards are great for legs. All you need to do is hop on the kickboard and kick your way around the pool. You can kick up and down, side to side, make circles, or make from-like motions.


Using air dumbbells, you can do a lot for your arms. For any exercise, you'll hold the weights down underwater. To work out your triceps, hold the dumbbells at a 90-degree angle with your elbows at your side. Then straighten your arms straight down. If the exercise is too hard, take some air out of the dumbbell or use a smaller one.
